Baby room furniture, room design and setup can be time consuming and stressful. Here are a few tips and suggestions to help you as you choose the look and amenities needed for this very special room. Furniture: Hunting for quality furniture can be frustrating and expensive. I was totally turned off while looking for furniture for our new born when I noticed $500 - $600 dressers had particle wood construction with some type of lamination material covering. Yuck! Our solution was to purchase solid wood kit furniture which you build and finish to fit your taste and design expectations. Our room finished is shown below. We found this furniture kit several years ago at JC Penney but have not seen it there for some time now. Additional retail outlets all over the country can be found at the manufacturers web site www.amfurniture.com. Other examples of finished wood furniture kits are also shown there.
6 Drawer dresser and Armoire kit with changing table attachment.
Detail of hand painted ornate. Use a blue wash with baseballs and ivy for boys. We will be posting tips on how to finish and paint your own kit furniture soon. If you can not wait, just e-mail us with questions. Once you select your baby room furniture, the next step is to design a useable set-up...I mean you will need to change many diapers, so you will want this task to be performed as easy as possible. Diapers and diaper necessities should be close at hand while performing the task so shelving for "butt cream" and powder should be planned to be within arms reach of the changing table. Our solution was to build a changing table to fit on top of the dresser, painted and finished to match the furniture. A dresser long shelf designed to match the furniture was attached above the changing table and dresser to hold all the things you will need at arms reach while performing the task. A Diaper bag which matched the drapes and baby bedding was hung off the armoire, next to the changing table for a weeks worth of new diapers at arms reach.
